In Mayan cosmogony, it is believed that when a human being is born, their soul is accompanied by a group of animal (Nagual, Huay) that serve as guides of their destiny. These companions contain and protect certain fragile elements of the soul, which could otherwise be lost or damaged along the path of life and “afflict the soul and body”. Georgina Escobar gives us a story of rediscovery of the world. A world that is mundane but fantastic and wonderful which, although is always exposed to us, we sometimes fail to see and appreciate. In the play, Pedro Linares, un artesano disenchanted with life afflicted in his soul, will venture on a journey towards death; in which, thanks to the company and protection of his animals or totems, he will be able to rediscover the beauty in his life and the wonders (or elements of the soul) that live within him. This play is a Día de Muertos gift, in which the souls and spirits of those who love us visit us to illuminate our path on earth through fantasy and imagination.
